Sorry everyone been gone a while. For those of you who know me well, you know that one of my favorite musical artists of all time is Michael W. Smith. One of his song titles is the name of this post, "place in this world." It is a story of a young guy venturing out into the world trying to find his purpose, his meaning, and his path in life. It is a noble story, a human story, that we all share. I find myself thinking about this song, and I feel fortunate. Because i know from experience, and from scientific research, that many, many people do not find their place in this world. Depending on whose numbers you look at, some 45 to 70% of Americans are unhappy in their current job. I was one of those people, and that is what brought me to Tony Robbins and Dean Graziozi, two men of powerful conviction. They showed me how to start my own company, and tomorrow this new company will begin its largest operation to date, in what will be the largest implementation of ACT in a public school system, and also the first time a full-blown, full-fledged ACT and DTR tandem intervention has been attempted.
I sit here and prepare myself mentally, and it takes me back to training for the Olympics. I have found my place in this world, to bring this new approach using mindfulness and restorative discipline to end the great black eye of American society, the school to prison pipeline. I can remember working as a volunteer on both of Hillary's presidential campaigns, she would stand up and say, "Do the most good that you can, for as many people that you can, for as long as you can." I always took that to heart. Well, Secretary Clinton, I took your advice, and tomorrow I, and a few other brave educators, wil go out and make history, um excuse me, make herstory.
I would later learn that Hillary did invent this idea herself, but borrowed it from another man of great conviction, the legendary Methodist John Wesley himself. Wesley has another famous quote that explains the school to prison pipeline perfectly....
"What one generation turns a blind eye to, the next generation will tolerate."
