Darren Aitchison

Darren Aitchison is credited with the first-ever published work using behavior analysis to study and improve restorative practices, and also the first single-subject analysis of a restorative program. He is one of the world’s leading authorities on the use of mindfulness and cognitive flexibility to improve and influence the outcomes of restorative practices. He studied under, and continues to be mentored by the legendary Dr. Ron Claassen, one the early pioneers of restorative justice science, and is one of the leading authorities on victim-offender mediations and school-based restorative justice programs.

MM is also a pioneer in restorative practices research, being one of the first scholars in the world to study and publish work with the goal of the long-term sustainability of school-based restorative programs, and also the effects of restorative programs on children with disabilities. His outspoken leadership on educational fads, as well as his expertise in school systems, has been instrumental in RJAI’s focus and vision throughout the world. He is also a member of the International Institute of Restorative Practices (IIRP).
